Over the past few years, Thailand it has become one of the world's top tourist destinations. Millions of people visit this incredible place to unwind from their daily routines while immersing themselves in a completely different culture full of attractions. However, beyond the plane tickets and the hotel, there is one question that should always be answered before embarking on such an adventure: the cost of living in the country.

The first thing we need to consider is that if we compare Thailand with any other country, near Spain, we find ourselves in a region that is much more attractive in economic terms. Below, we’ll tell you what the cost of living is for a tourist or a digital nomad.

How much does internet connection cost?

Internet connection is key not only if we work remotely, but also if we want to stay in touch with our loved ones, such as family or friends. It’s important to keep in mind that we may be asked for some information to pass through customs, so we should make sure we have internet access from the moment we land.

One of the best options is Blink eSIM: a virtual SIM card that allows us to connect to the internet with unlimited data and 5G speed with a flat rate of €3.50.Additionally, we can use our eSIM during future trips, making it very easy to use.

Accommodation

If you haven’t booked accommodation yet, it’s important to gather information. A mid-range hotel room can cost around €40 per night per person, always considering private rooms with a bathroom. If you want to share accommodation in a hostel, you can save even more money.

Apartments will depend on the area and the cityHowever, you could find an average price slightly above 400 euros for two weeks. Depending on the size and number of rooms, the price may increase significantly.

With AirBnb, a similar thing happens, although the prices are slightly higher than those found in the local market. In this case, the price per night can be around €50, depending on the characteristics of the accommodation itself.

Public transportation

Thailand is one of the countries that offers the greatest variety of public transportation to get around the city. We have the classic moto-taxis, which can cost around 60 cents per trip. They are one of the most used forms of transportation in the country because they are the fastest.

For longer trips, we have trains. In this case, the ticket price will vary depending on a large number of factors, but it could be around €25. If you want to visit the floating markets, you will need to take a boat, which can cost just under one and a half euros. It is also one of those experiences you will never forget.

Finally, depending on the city you are in, you can also use the buses. The price of each ticket starts at 25 cents. Therefore, overall, transportation fares are much cheaper than any other means of transportation we might find.

Health insurance

If you are going to travel to Thailand, you need to have private health insurance. Otherwise, you'll have to endure long waiting lists with restrictions that you're probably not used to. So, the best option is to get a policy, which shouldn't cost more than €200, to have the peace of mind you need.

It is important that the insurance covers you for emergency expenses.hospitalization expenses, and, if necessary, repatriation.

Food

Finally, it’s time to talk about the food. another aspect we must keep under control to ensure our budget. In this case, food is also very affordable, except for items like fresh cheese, as the kilogram can cost nearly €20. However, this is not common, and we will be able to get a fairly balanced grocery basket.
If you want to eat out, a breakfast could cost you just under two euros. Lunch, if you're not looking for anything special, can also be found for two or three euros, a price very similar to dinner. So, you can save quite a bit eating out.
