One of the main advantages that they have is digital nomads is that they have the possibility to choose the place from which they want to perform their work. A situation that was unheard of until a few years ago, but thanks to remote work, it is now possible. As long as, of course, your company allows it.

If you are interested in learning English without it affecting your daily life, one of the best options you can choose is to move to... live in Malta. Even more so when we consider that it is one of the cheapest countries available to us in Europe. But, what should we keep in mind before going?

One of the key aspects is the need to have internet from the moment we set foot on land. This way, not only will we be able to get in touch with our loved ones and friends, but we will also be able to handle all the necessary tasks to find accommodation, a coworking space, or any other needs that may arise. With Blink eSIM you can hire an eSIM with a flat rate of €3.5 per day at maximum speed and with unlimited data. This way, you won’t have to worry at any moment about how much you're using your line.

How much does accommodation cost in Malta?

As always, we start with accommodation, one of the aspects to which we should dedicate a larger portion of our budget. Unlike many other countries, in Malta we will find accommodations that are quite affordable. In the most popular cities, we can find accommodations starting from €1,000.If we move to peripheral areas, the price can drop considerably, so we recommend that you spend a good amount of time searching for the accommodation you need.

If you want opt for a coliving, they have also become quite popular in recent years, and we have different options available to us. These accommodations are slightly more expensive than the previous ones, but they have the advantage of including extra services, such as laundry, so we won’t have to worry about anything.

How much does transportation cost?

As always, the VTC (Vehicle for Hire) apps are always a bit more expensive than shared public transport. A taxi ride starts at five euros, and from there, the cost will depend on the distance we need to travel.

We have the option to move around by bicycle, with different companies available in various cities that offer very competitive prices compared to any other mode of transport we may find.

Finally, the ticket for the bus ticket costs €2.50, approximately. If we are going to use it daily, it will surely be more cost-effective to purchase a monthly ticket that offers a much more competitive rate.

Food

Everything related to food is usually another one of the major concerns. On average, in a restaurant, we would spend around €20 for lunch, while for dinner the bill would rise to around €30, so the prices are quite similar to those we can find in Spain.

If we go to the supermarket, the prices are also quite similar to those in our country. Perhaps meat or fish are slightly more expensive, but on average, everything is fairly comparable to what we are used to.

A health insurance is not required, but it is recommended

If you have the European Health Insurance Card It is not necessary to take out health insurance, as you will be covered by Malta's public health system. However, we do recommend that you get private health insurance to avoid any health-related issues
Make sure it covers general medicine, hospitalization, and emergencies. This way, you can be sure to enjoy Malta to the fullest without any issues during your experience.
